Sadharanikaran – The conundrum of communication in Indian context.
Communication is a product of local context. The West developed an understanding of communication and created a discipline of study. However, India is a complex country with rich history and tradition within which communication is understood and interpreted, and the Western models are not adequate to understand the conundrum of Indian communication. This presentation is an exploration of India-specific understanding of the discipline of communication specifically recognizing that most of our population live in rural and semi-rural environments with its own paradigms of communication and steeped in their culture and traditions while engaged in modern communication technologies. This presentation will attempt to address the complexity of the Indian context, which is more than Samcharan, and explore how to understand Sadharanikaran. This will be a social-anthropology of Indian communication – a very rich subject.
